You know what I want

You know what I want

A Poem by Christine

I asked what you wanted.
You told me I knew

I knew you wanted to want me
and not have to feel so bad about it
if you did

So we put ourselves in positions
because it was supposed to feel good.

We put ourselves in positions
because that’s what boys do
when they don’t know what to say

It must
Be hard
To press up
So softly and safely
Against your better judgment

Over and over again

As if to prove that solitude
is meant to be shared
between lonely cynics.

Nicely structured. When I read it aloud the series of two word lines slowed the reading as if to emphasize the doubt being reflected. A deft touch there.

Very much like this piece.
Elements remind me of my own latest writing (I know: how vain?..)
Seriously though, well done. I really do like this low profile, fanciless kind of language.
Thanks
