No Fairy tales TonightA Poem by imrul.islam
The city is alight.
In yellowbluewhite, forgotten wrongs morph into right. Cars, ad
nauseum traffic and fumes, streets of yellow bordered by white- Twilight
drapes its wings, disappears into night. The city is alight. From brothels to the Parliament
there is And tonight the darkness gives way to light the darkness gives way and forgotten wrongs morph into right. Yellow to blue to white.
Clients and models, designers all of them too tired with life. Nine to five, it all seemed so right. And now too tired to fight, They lose themselves in a city filled with fragments of from streets to alleys, they come out in hordes, embrace the light redblueyellow hope takes flight. Beyond the veil of light, where shadows lurk supreme is where our lives find meaning. This city was never made for you. This city of dreams and hope: all fallacy- you and I, we simply don’t feature. An orphan cries unnoticed, the moon rises in a sky of factory fumes pearly white blackened by dioxides, nether lights moonshine; we escape notice, too tired to care, too cowardly to dare. Revolutions and protests dissolve into car horns and microphones barred by barricades- festoons, banners draped around light poles riddle our dreams- Oh yes we dream, in the blind alleys of this city we struggle to see For this is the requiem to our existence. Sorrows swirl amongst neons and smoke, cigarette butts in gutters overflowing drains- promises made never realized, no one cares grow up. Look around, beyond roads clogged with traffic and rivers gifted to neighbours Beyond the fallacy and the sirens blaring deep into the night This city is dying. You are dying. We are dying. From yellow to blue to white, no fairytales tonight.
