the girl with the sad eyesA Story by impulsShe quirked her lips in an ironic smile that never reached the pain in the sea blue of her gaze, and she cocked her head and gently said, "I broke my own heart, and his too I'll wager."They
watched her move through life. The girl with the sad eyes in a too thin face
and the out of control hair floating around. And the time passed, and they
watched, and though she learned to smile again, her eyes never healed. It
passed, one day, that one of them found the courage to ask, "Who was he?
The one who broke your heart?" She
quirked her lips in an ironic smile that never reached the pain in the sea blue
of her gaze, and she cocked her head and gently said, "I broke my own
heart, and his too I'll wager."
Her eyes
were far away and where she went they could never follow. "Some things
once broken can never be mended." Tears gathered in her eyes but she
willed them from falling. "Love makes no difference when paths diverge too
far, and though it never fades, neither will two fates intertwine for a soft
kiss on a bed of blue again." She
raised a hand to her eyes and tossed the unshed tears away. She smiled brightly
at them and proclaimed, "I'll not cry for him again." And she
continued through life with the lying smile and the sad eyes, the wild hair and
the too thin face, quietly aware of the happiness that always seemed to pass
her by. © 2011 impuls |
