Have You Ever?

Have you ever paused to think;

"Maybe she's not happy,"

Or read over my poems,

The words all grey and sappy?

Have you ever stopped and wondered;

"Maybe that smile is fake,"

Or captured the look in my eye

And thought my heart was to break?

Have you ever simply pondered;

"Maybe she was lying,"

Or second-guessed my disregards,

That inside I'm really dying?

Have you ever took time to consider;

"Maybe that laugh wasn't real,"

Or overheard my silent tears

And the emotions I tend to feel?

If you only knew.

I love the meaning of that cross through the last line. We must always acknowledge the feelings of others. Compassion and understanding are wise things.

because I hurt. It did not occur
to me that she was hurting too.
