Yellow Elm Tree

Yellow Elm Tree

A Poem by Im His Daughter
"

I glance outside in the winter night and this is what i see

"

I look outside,

and what do i see

but a very large

Yellow Elm tree

It is naked and cold

no leaves to be seen

For it is February

colors of brown not green

It stands tall and still

not a breeze in the air

I wonder how long

The tree has been there

It is -16

All withery and old

The street light gleams

giving it a glow

It is tall and mellow

against the dark

It's an orangy yellow

with brown old bark

Guarding the night

it is cold outside nothing at stake

With a glistening of white

it wears a dusting of flakes

It is standing tall

for what do i see

in Glen Elm stands

A Yellow Elm Tree

great tribute to the great elm, like a guard standing in the forest of trees.

The simple and beautiful things as a tree is missed till it is gone. Last year a thunder storm took out my tree of many years. I miss the protection from the sun and the swing for my grandchildren. I like the description of the elm tree. The poem was a pleasure to read. Thank you.
