The Truth

The Truth

A Poem by Im His Daughter

Purposely trying to hurt
or embarrass me,
to make others see me
as heartless or cruel when I am not,
is in all actuality
ugly, cunning
& a reflection on oneself.
That behaviour is narcissistic,
however narcissists
wearing rose colored glasses
will not see that
in themselves.
At any rate,
I know the truth
& more so,
does God.
No wonder the battle to live
is so weak in my mind.
If I gave up,
the narcissist in you wins
& I am seen as
heartless & cruel.

This poem speaks to a major part of our broken human identities - the tendency to be self-centered and, yes, narcissistic, to write our own flaws off as someone else's so we don't have to take the blame. But in the end, we know the truth... and even more importantly, as you said, God knows the truth. It can be scary to think about how well He knows all of our thoughts and actions, but it's also comforting. It's good to know that there's someone out there who understands us more than we understand ourselves. :) Great work!
