The Red Book

Scene 1

Jake’s mother

Setting:

Jake’s room (full of books on the shelf, a laptop on his desk)

Mother: (yells out) Jake, time to eat!

Jake: (inside his room reading a book) Alright, I’ll be down there in a sec.

Mother: Jake come down to eat, and stopped reading!

Jake: (comes down to the dinning room)

Mother: After you finish eating, I want you to go out to play with your friends or just take a walk

Jake: (whined with food in his mouth) But I want to read!

Mother: Don’t talk when you’re chewing.

Jake: (sits quietly eating with an upsetting face)

Scene 2

Characters:

Setting:

Outside of Jake’s house

Jake: (outside of house) Mom I’m going to go take a walk (closes door)

Mother: (yells back out of nowhere) Ok, walk safe!

Jake: (looking at the sky as walking) I wish I could stay home and read

Suddenly, Jake walks into a garbage can and falls in his face

Jake: (gets up quickly) I hope nobody saw that (o口o) picks up a book on the ground ) Cool! A free book, this book must be horror. (walks back home)

Scene 3

Jake’s house

Jake: (yells as he opens the door) I’m home!

Silence

Jake: (walks into kitchen)Mom? (stops all the sudden) Oh yeah…she left for a three-day business trip thingy.

Scene 4

Jake’s room

Jake: Let’s see what’s this old scary looking book is about (opens the red book he found with a deep breath)

My name is Hayashi. I dress in black with a samurai sword in my hand, l will kill anyone who reads this red book!

Jake: (jumps and closes the book quickly)

The Red Book begins to glow black light while shaking, then the light went out of Jake’s window.

Jake: (shaking with eyes and mouth wide opened)

Scene 5

Stephanie

Mr. Noble

Setting:

School and street

Noble: (teaching math in front of class)

Jake: (Day dreaming)

Noble: Jake! Jake

Jake: (looks at Mr. Noble quickly) WHAT?!

Noble: What are you daydreaming about Jake (sighs). Now, solve this problem!

Jake: X=247

Noble: Ugh…that’s right (thinking: stupid smarty pants )

Jake, Stephanie, and Frankie walking home, Stephanie and Frankie were chatting

Stephanie: Hey, Jake why are you so quiet today?

Jake: (looking at the sky then quickly turns to Stephanie) Nothing…

Jake, Stephanie, and Frankie walks on a big hill, and there was Hayashi!

Jake: (stops and drops his backpack with his eyes wild open)

Frankie: Hey, Jake what’s wrong?

Jake: (points finger to the front, voice shaking) It’s…it’s…H…aya..shi

Frankie: (looks around) Who?

Stephanie: You’re mom…

Frankie: What? Shut up! My mom’s out of country! YOU LIE!!!

Stephanie: Puhahahaha!!!

Frankie: ….idiot

Stephanie: Jake? You OK?

Jake: AH!!!!!!!!!! (runs away)

Frankie and Stephanie: Jake, wait!! (chases after Jake)

Hayashi: (follows Jake)

Scene 6

Setting:

Forest

Jake ran into the forest

Stephanie: Jake! What’s the matter?!

Jake: NOTHING YOU FRUIT!!!!

Stephanie: What!? I’m not a fruit! I am a vegetable! Frankie’s the fruit! Just look at him!!

Frankie: (eating an apple)

Jake stops in the middle of the path, standing between two big trees, and shakes with fear

Stephanie: (shouts to Jake) Hey! What’s the matter with you?!

Jake: (turns around) Last night, I read a red book, and it said it was going to kill anyone who reads it…and that would be me!!!!

Stephanie and Frankie: ………..wha?

Jake: I am so scared. I saw him when we were going up the hill. Didn’t you guys see him?

Stephanie: Uh…no?

Jake: Maybe…He only sees the person he wants to kill!

Frankie: Or maybe you’re just CRAZY!! You know what’s the problem Jake? (puts arms around Jake) You are reading too much of books, you should relax, be cool man!

Jake: (grabs Frankie to the front of his face) No! You don’t understand! I’m serious! (pushes Frankie on the ground)

Frankie: (falls on the ground)(grunts and stands up quickly)

Jake: (pulls out the red book out from his back and hands it to Frankie)

Stephanie: Is that the book you were talking about?

Jake: YES!!!!!

Frankie: (opens the book) There’s nothing in there, are you sure it’s the right book?

Jake: What? Are you blind?! Give me that!! (grabs back the book) It’s right here! Don’t you see? (point at the words)

Stephanie: (looks at the book) There’s nothing in there!

Jake: Wha..wha? (steps back) I…I…I…I gotta go!!!

Frankie: Jakie wanna go potty?

Stephanie: haha..

Jake: (runs away)

Frankie: Um…I’ll talk to you on the phone Jake! um..ok? Jake?

Stephanie: I don’t think he heard you

Frankie: Yeah…he really gotta go!

Scene 7

Setting:

Frankie and Jake’s room and Frankie’s kitchen

Frankie: (talking on phone with Jake) Are you sure you weren’t dreaming?

Jake: Yeah!

Frankie: o..k

Jake: So do you want to come over? My mom’s not home today

Frankie: Ha…(baby talk)is Jakie afraid to be alone by himself?

Jake: Shut up…

Door slams noise occurs in Frankie’s house

Frankie: Fine, I’ll be there. (glass broken sound) Wait, I think heard something downstairs, hold on.

Frankie holds on his phone and slowly goes downstairs to the kitchen then turns on the light.

Frankie: (gasps)

The window is broken into pieces on the floor

Hayashi: (approaches Frankie) (film Hayashi from the back, yo~)

Frankie: (turns around, sees Hayashi and gasps) (breathing loudly)

Jake: Frank, you still there?

Frankie: Ja..Ja..Jake…

Jake: Yeah?

Frankie: (voice shaking)HE…HE…HE’S HERE!!!!!

Jake: What? Who’s there?

Frankie: (voice shaking)That…that Hayamapi dude!!!

Jake: That’s “Hayashi”, Frank……(shouts)WHAT?!!!!

Frankie: (shaking) Jake…hel..help (drops phone on the floor)

Hayashi: (kills Frankie by taking his spirit away)

Frankie: AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(voice fades away)

Jake: (shouts) Frank? Frank? Frank? (looks at phone) Oh…crap…(calls Stephanie)

Stephanie: Hello?

Jake: It’s me

Stephanie: Jake?

Jake: Frank’s trouble

Jake and Stephanie run to Frankie’s house

Scene 8

Setting:

Frankie’s kitchen

Jake: (opens the door)Frankie!!

Stephanie: (sees Frankie lying on the floor, covers mouth and gasps)

Jake: (runs to Frankie) Frankie!! (turns to Stephanie) Steph call 911!!

Ambulance comes and takes Frankie away. Jake and Stephanie watch

Stephanie: (cries and hugs Jake……ew… )

Jake: It’s all my fault……I shouldn’t have told you and Frank about the Red Book. I hate to break the news to you Steph…but I think either you or I is the next victim.

Stephanie: (lets go of Jake)Wha..what? No! (points self) I’m too young to die! And so are you!

Jake: I know, just calm down. I am willing to take any risks to protect you.

Scene 9

Jake’s home

Jake: (runs up to room and opens closet)(looks around) What? I don’t have a single weapon? (sits down on bed) (puts hand on head)Oh, man what should I do?(sits for a few seconds) That’s right! I can make one myself!(runs out of room)

Scene 10

Setting:

Stephanie’s home. Thunder rain outside

Stephanie: (sits on couch, biting nails) (gets up and looks out the window) Where is that Jake? (heart pounding faster and faster) (keeps turning around to see if anyone’s behind her)

---Door bell rings---

Stephanie: (jumps) God…(goes to door) Jake? (opens door)

Hayashi: (smiles, sword in hand)

Stephanie: (gasps with eyes wide opened)

Scene 11

Jake: (running, carrying a crappy gun)(slips and drops gun)Ugh! Never mind that!? (gets up and runs again) (hears a scream) (stops) That was Stephanie…(starts running again) STEPH!!!!

Scene 12

Setting:

Stephanie’s house

Hayashi: (holds sword up high)

Stephanie: (crawled in the corner) AH!!!!

Hayashi: (puts hand over ear) God! Will you stop screaming?!

Stephanie: (eyes wide open) ……..AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hayashi: Very well…(ready to slice Stephanie)

Stephanie: (hands cover head) AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jake: (jumps in front of Stephanie)

Hayashi: (slices Jake’s arm)

Stephanie: (puts hand half way down head, looks at Jake) Jake?

Jake: (looks at Stephanie) I told you I will take any risks to protect you…(falls down, Red Book slipped out of pocket)

Stephanie: (puts hands on Jake’s shoulder) Jake!

Jake: I’m ok

Hayashi: (grabs the book) Finally, I found it! (to Jake) I guess I have to kill you first!

Jake: Really? Think again

Hayashi: Wha? (turns around)

All of Jake’s friend (about 10 people) were surrounded Hayashi with an arrow in their hands

Jake: You’re surrendered!

Hayashi: Huh? (jumps into book) HAHA!! You can’t get me now!!!

Jake: (looks at the book) You know what? This guy is actually dumber than I thought

Stephanie: What do you mean?

Jake: This… (takes out a lighter and burns the book) He’s trapped in there now, it’s the only way we can kill him

Stephanie: (mouth opened with a “what the heck” face)

Hayashi: (screams from book) ah!!!!!!

Scene 13
