We Do But....

We Do But....

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS

Down on bended knee

Face expressive with love

unique ring symbolic of love, nestled in a

velvet box

Fluent words spoken in

romantic tones

He gazes into starlight eyes, ears wait to hear

Yes I will marry you

Sense of relief is evident

At the moment they do, but.....

Preparations need to be made

Formal wear fitted

Invitations made

Wedding cake ordered

Church reserved

Blood test and marriage license to get

At the moment they still do, but.....

Church decorated with flowers and bells

Unity candle is lit

Bride and groom pledge their undying love

Contentment settles in

At the moment they do, but.....

Fantasy honeymoon is taken

Two lovers soak in the alabaster moon

Bodies integrate perfectly

Serenity soothes their soul

At the moment they still do, but....

First aniversary spent on silk sheets and romance

Second anniversary love still shines

Third anniversary slips them by

Fourth anniversary spent in separate rooms

Fifth anniversary fight esculates

At the beginning they did, but now.....

Divorce is imminent

I was able to make through eleven years with my ex before divorce was nipping at our heals. Sadly you thinkthat you have found the one true love of your life and you say the words and even mean them but then the inevitable starts to happen and something inside of you changes. Something insid eof them changes as well, you are both differant people than the two souls that were suposed to becaome one. I am not blaming my divorce intirely on her, it was my fault as well, but she treated me as if she owned me from the moment I signed my name on the dotted line. You hit the nail right on the head with this piece, very well done!

Unfortunately, this is how it often plays out. (I've been married 3 times) Some just aren't meant for each other, but for others, it'd work if they'd make it. Always, a marriage takes work.

A very hard look at some, not all marriages. Very well thought out and written and a very good point made here. there is often a lot of emphasis put into the begining of a relationship but not so much as it wears on, and so we see too often the end result.
Good read :)

So beautifully expressed joy and proposal
Excitements of upcoming weeding and preparations
sadness of what should have been for a lifetime faded in to the wind
absolutely beautiful and so true,it happens all too then
I love it it deals with reality and you brought this piece to life
Excellent job!
Hugssss :)

Ah, a very sad situation but it does happen more often than not. I like your poem, especially the way you laid it out on the page.

A tragic love story. There's always a 'but...' it seems waiting to ruin the best of things. Very enjoyable read on a very real life situation.

That's the sad direction many marriages go. Very tragic.
