Back When We Were Younger

Back When We Were Younger

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

Rekindle a flame of love.

"

Years has passed since we married

Our love used to be a burning flame

Now it is cool like a cold winters rain

I want to feel that burning flame again

Chorus

We are older, but not old

Plenty of years left to live

Our flame is smaller

Let us feed the fire

Make it burn like it once did

Back when we were younger

I want to find a garden

Arrayed with beautiful flowers

Make a bed of petals

Lay you down

Make love until our bodies are heated

Wrapped in the fragrant scent

Like we did back when we were younger

Chorus

We are older, but not old

Plenty of years left to live

Our flame is smaller

Let us feed the fire

Make it burn like it once did

Back when we were younger

Stars blanket the sky

Warm summer breeze

Let the top down on our old convertible

Ride around town

Neck in the back seat

Like we did back when we were younger

Chorus

We are older, but not old

Plenty of years left to live

Our flame is smaller

Let us feed the fire

Make it burn like it once did

Back when we were younger

Go out to the movies

Make it the late show

Sit on the very back row

Share a coke and popcorn

Make out until the lights come on

Like we did back when we were younger

Chorus

We are older, but not old

Plenty of years left to live

Our flame is smaller

Let us feed the fire

Make it burn like it once did

Back when we were younger

Forty years down the road

We are older, but not dead

Let us feed that flame

See how hot we can get

Chorus

We are older, but not old

Plenty of years left to live

Our flame is smaller

Let us feed the fire

Make it burn like it once did

Back when we were younger

interesting word play on we're older but not old....funny how we praise the new, the beginnings and the fresh - but the miracle happens when the novelty wears off and discovery revatilizes as you grow together...the foundations are your roots and the time of your fruit ripens to maturity

This would be fab put to music....
Great storyline....all I can say is....if you are 'not old'...helllll...what are you waiting for ??
Forever young is my motto.
Beautifully written with an unnecessary sadness for the folks concerned...Get on with it...just do it !!

I like this poem. Old age and the kids do slow us down. Hard to regain the old fire of youth. I like the flow and the desire of this poem. Last line is what us old folks all need. Some positive motivation to revive some good old fashion passion and desire. Thank you for a excellent poem.

Time doesn't dull love. Love must be kept alive with lots of tender and caring attention. An awesome romantic poem.
