Father Time

Father Time

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

Growing old and wishing to be young.

"

Hands calloused by hard labor.

Eyes dim, searches for serenity.

Heart that's tired and old,

longs for rest.

Age of time wrinkles his body.

In the remoteness of his heart he

craves to turn back time, to be

Youthful and young at heart once again.

Lines that etch his face would be erased

He's a man longing to be a boy.

Extension of each limb would be no pain.

If only he could out smart Father Time,

tireness wouldn't be his enemy.

Energy would be friend him.

He's a man longing to be a boy.

His memory is fading, he has no

inclination of family or friends.

Life goes on around him.

Father Time has bestowed so much upon him.

He's a man longing to be a boy.

He is not intrigued by age,

it is only numbers on his soul.

He is crused by age,

Father Time is to blame.

He's a man longing to be a boy.

Age of time orbits around his body.

Escape is powerless.

There is no fountain of youth to

submerge his body into.

Time is of the essence.

He's a man longing to be a boy.

As he lays down to sleep he prays a

silent prayer to Father Time, that

death would take a plapable hold on him.

He wishes to die.

He's a man longing to be a boy.

Ouch, that is a painful but very realistic description of the leading up to old age, dont think about it, until you reach there, make plenty of good memories, at least then you can forget for a while the nagging aching pains, a great poem. I really enjoyed reading it. Moonbeam.

Wonderful poem I love it. Sometimes it seems that time goes far way to fast. It' a great poem and see a lot of truth in it. This reminds me of a few family members of mine. As my grandpa would say "we get older but younger by heart" Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem!

It reads well. Check the following sentence. Did you mean his?

"Age of time wrinkles is body."

Ah, this is a painful reality waiting for all of us. The fear and pain of old age rings loudly in this poem. You did a great job on using the words you listed.

Blimey....this is tear inducing love! To lose the strength and come to terms with aging and the experiences of life is harsh! xx

Oh my... the inevitable curse of wilting. Though the man I am is wasting away, the man inside of me is being renewed day to day. Skin my disintegrate to dust but the spirit of a well worn man spreads through all he touched through life and is never wasted.
Father time is growing weary due to abundance of ignorance on this earth, but we can save him too by clinging to the gray strands of wisdom that flow down his back. Wonderfully expressed poetry, dear.

A painful read, I felt for him but we all will likely face this. You did a wonderful job using the words listed in this write.

Love this - maybe in his mind he is a boy - many have told me that though they have aged in the way they look and get around inside they are still the same..
Of course aging happens to all who live long enough .. and sadly it is as you say here ... a man, woman, longing to be a boy/girl.
Nice poem .
