Outside Looking In

Outside Looking In

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A young girl wanting to fit in with her peers

"

She stands on the outside looking in.

Often times a whispered prayer escapes her lips, wishing to...

Have friends

           Go to parties

                     Be beautiful

                                Have money

          Fit in

She's poor in wealth by comparison

to the rich, but abundant in love.

Hand me down clothes is

what she wears.

While they wear designer clothes.

She settles walking or riding the

bus to school.

They cruise around in sports cars.

They hover over her with smirks on

their faces.

Mouths open ready to spew out cruel words.

Rag girl

       Trash

             Stupid

                     Wannabe

Swelling tide of woe washes

over her, dampens her soul

like dew dampens the earth.

Exasperation burns inside her,

 heart overflows with shame.

She doesn't understand why they

can't see the good in her.

She may not be rich with money,

but she's rich at heart.

She has....

    Kind eyes

             Gentle hands

                    Loving heart

Always ready to be a friend,

but she stands on the outside looking in.

A very tender and heartwrenching piece. if only she who stands on the outside could realize that in all likelihood she is a far better person than those who judge her by superficial standards, perhaps their judgements might not hurt so much...But, sadly, they always do, don't they?
You may wish to change "Want a be" in the 2nd stanza to "Wannabe", the standard contraction for that slang phrase.

I like the output style, eye-catching!
you captured this well, I believe one should be who she/he really is, never pretend or change to please people and never wait for their acceptance, the right person and the good friends, moreover your family should love and care about for who you really are, wonderful job.

This is the story on me and my siblings life..( children..a poor but very hard working father, but hand me downs and being sent to a rich area school..Today i would trade all of their riches to relive those days as a child with all of my siblings still alive..Nice one that hit my heart hard..Kathie

Very sad and heart felt.

I think you may have a typo:
"Her peers or from the rich side."

Should or be are?

O h I think this is a wonderful sentiment as it tells of how privilege never wants to effect itself with non privilege a shame as we can all learn from others

It is a real sweet write .... a true to life image which we see now and then
in our lives ...... Rich or poor all are the same !

Even if she fits into that group there will be another that she wont fit into. Lucky is the person who is an individual first in life for they will have happiness within the most. When it is all said and done, things will change. I loved this poem, it gave us that look into the past when we were that young where fitting in mattered the most. Now I don't want to fit in :) Great write.

There’s nothing worse then going through
teenage peer pressure and not fitting in…
Yet it happens all the time and probably
will till the end of time. All I can say is that
I can relate. Nicely done…
