Outside Looking In

Outside Looking In

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A young girl wanting to fit in with her peers

"

She stands on the outside looking in.

Often times a whispered prayer escapes her lips, wishing to...

Have friends

           Go to parties

                     Be beautiful

                                Have money

          Fit in

She's poor in wealth by comparison

to the rich, but abundant in love.

Hand me down clothes is

what she wears.

While they wear designer clothes.

She settles walking or riding the

bus to school.

They cruise around in sports cars.

They hover over her with smirks on

their faces.

Mouths open ready to spew out cruel words.

Rag girl

       Trash

             Stupid

                     Wannabe

Swelling tide of woe washes

over her, dampens her soul

like dew dampens the earth.

Exasperation burns inside her,

 heart overflows with shame.

She doesn't understand why they

can't see the good in her.

She may not be rich with money,

but she's rich at heart.

She has....

    Kind eyes

             Gentle hands

                    Loving heart

Always ready to be a friend,

but she stands on the outside looking in.

Someday she will outshine them all. Her beauty is real and will last a lifetime.

People who believe they are better then the rest of the world. Need to be left alone to their greed and over bearing attitude. Good people need to find other good people who know the way to peace. Kindness and love. I like the poem. Poor girl is better off then hanging with people with no class. A excellent poem. Made me think.

yes this piece could fit many a girl and what they go though, it sad that many find a need to put others down to make themselves feel better for what they lack. great format and how it comes together.
Excellent write.

I like this a lot. Its such a true to life story for so many young people who just don't fit in. The feeling of being on the outside looking, that real hurtful painful feeling. I feel sad for this young girl. You did a great job on this piece.

So sad! I felt so bad for the girl, people can be cruel. Nice job

the separation of classes described precisely - how we are judged and befriended by what we can offer or not...it is spread throughout the country - perhaps it comes down to resources, appearances and greed; i am not sure...thankfully the arts connect us

the only change i would make is in this line -
She's from the poor side of town. Her peers are from the rich side.

to

She's poor in wealth by comparison to the rich but abundant in love.
