No Future

No Future

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A lady spends her time closed off from the world loving someone that is gone.

"

She takes refuge in her house, shielding

herself from the present time.

Trapped in the past where love felt so good.

To come back to the present time she would

have to admit it's over.

The solitude is not peaceful, but suffocating.

Memories of him looms in her tired mind.

The thoughts she ponders assail her,

getting her no where.

He left her six months ago, needing space to breathe.

His vacancy from her life left her feeling empty and defeated.

Her world had caved around her when he left.

Sticks and stones can break bones,

but words can never be taken back.

His words had been like a stone,

knocking her off her feet,

breaking her like humpty dumpty.

She watched as life went on without her.

With  trembling hands she lit the logs

in the fireplace.

Each love letter she read, then watched as

they burned to ashes.

Breathing became lighter.

Life was to be lived.

She was ready to relinquish the past,

and move back into the present,

and look forward to the future.

She realized there was no future in the past.

Really nice, nice work. Imaginative with a good regenerative theme. Line 3 verse 2 should read "she ponders assail her." Also "took" / "taken." (Verse 4) (Breaking!) These are small errors. This is very good work that twangs the reader's emotions. Keep it up.

Beautiful portrayal of a woman's helplessness when she is left alone by the one she loved , great poem.

Looking back only hurts, to bury oneself in the past hurts worse..best to dust off the memories and begin anew..Valentine

This is really good. There is a very nice strength to this piece. The words tell a story of where so many come from. I like the fact it is relateable. Very nice work.

I don't know where you're coming from but I can surely relate into this work of your. I believe most people do anyways. :) Still like what you've said "there was no future in the past." It may hurts but it's reality.

So much truth in this - the devastation that follows such a trauma - but life slowly does go on, and you portrayed her sadness and steps to recovery very, very well.

Great work, Dahlink!

I am certain I see flashes of brilliance in this piece.. It is becoming a delightful pleasure to read your work. I love seeing the growth of both you and your sister. Keep up the good work!

Well done...I can relate to this so well...(except reverse the genders :P)

She takes refuge in her house, shielding
herself from the present time.
Trapped in the past where love felt so good.
To come back to the present time she would
have to admit it's over.

So much raW truth in these lines.

Very Emotional. The heartbreak and loneliness here are just
amazing. It seemed to have a slow vibe to it...to me...but that
made it all the better. The feelings written feel so much more
deliberate.
