Beauty Of The EarthA Poem by KATHY SUE SILLSOne sets out on a journey and finds serenity. The wicked wind blows furiously, waking her from a restless slumber. Turmoil fills her being. The walls feel as if they're closing in on her. She dresses, and steps out into the fog filled morning. Hints of sunlight sprays the invisible earth, trying to wake it up.
Birds fly through the milky white clouds. Tiny chirps can be heard over the confusence streams. She bends and picks a wild flower close to the creek bank. Pieces of petals array the flowing water.
The fog evaporates from the heat of the sun, brightening the earth. The wind calms to a slight cool breeze, ruffling the trees, sending leaves cascading to the ground. She dances around, catching the vibrant colors in her out stretched hands.
The marsh is green and luxuriant. She picks a dandilion and blows, watching the particles float away. Butterflies in luminous shades fly around gracefully. She frolics through the brush, feeling like a child.
She stops on her journey, takes a deep breath. Feelings ofchaos disappear. A serene feeling envelops her. The earth seems calmer too. She stands, mesmerized by the beauty of it all.
