Emptiness Within Us

Emptiness Within Us

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A husband and wife deal with a loss of a child.

"

The night creeps upon the earth,

as the shadows of sorrow compel her soul.

She cries for the child she lost only

days ago.

She places a hand on her empty belly,

wishing for life, but none is there.

The grief is tormenting her soul,

eating away her flesh, ripping her

heart from her chest.

The crib sets in the cornor of the nursery,

empty, beckoning for a baby.

She  winds the music box and listens

to the lullaby, her voice qivers as she

hums alone, fingers wrapped around a

blue blanket.

The longing becomes too much to bare.

She falls to the floor unable to stand.

The heavy burden crushing her.

She begins to wail unable to control

her sobs.

She raises her head as she hears an

agonizing moan coming from across the room.

Her husband sits in the rocking chair holding

the basket ball he had  bought for his son,

tears streaming down his anguish face.

She crawls over to him, lays her head

in his lap.  He lowers his head to hers.

They cry for the baby they lost only

days ago.

this was very touching, an emotional ride that once had shared a happy moment, now replaced with agonizing dreams to be a parent.
And I so happen to be litening to, Alexisonfire- Rough Hands, just seemed fitting while I read this piece.

A very sad poem. I don't believe you can describe the pain of losing a child. No words can tell of the pain and hurt. You told a sad story in your words. Take two strong people to get over the pain and lost of a child. A excellent poem.

sadness...an emotional expression of loss through the eyes of a poet...even thoughts on death can sadden the reader...

Your style of poetry so far seems to be very story esque ya know. And you don't seem to need rhyme to move it along well. This is pretty moving I'd say, conveying the sadness of child loss well.

can't wait to read more of your work. :)

Wow!! this is so heartbreaking. You brought out the true feelings of the parents and just how they might feel with such a tragedy.

Wow! That was incredibly sad. I can kind of relate to this as before my son was born, the woman I was with, had a miscarriage. It was still very early in the pregnancy, but it's a hard thing to go through.
