Wedding Day Jitters

Wedding Day Jitters

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

Man and woman both have wedding day jitters!

"

She wakes from a peaceful slumber,

with butterflies in her stomach,

her nerves are on edge.

Today is her wedding day.

She sighs with anticipation for

what is ahead, but something is

distrubing her pleasant thoughts.

Could she have cold feet?

or be having doubts?

Her heart begins to flutter, as

she discovers she has the

wedding day jitters.

Suddenly the adventure ahead

frightens her to death.

The church is all decorated.

The guests are on the way.

The cake with the bride and groom

on top awaits.

Everyone is ready for the

happy event, but the bride!

She thinks of her husband to be,

wondering if he's got cold feet.

Are is the wedding day jitters

just for brides?

*************

He sits in the church ,

with sweat on his brow.

His stomach is in knots.

Today is his wedding day.

He sighs with desire for

what is ahead, but his feelings

aren't quite right.

Could he have cold feet?

or be having doubts?

His breath catches in his throat,

as he discovers he has the

wedding day jitters.

Suddenly the adventure ahead

scares him to death.

The guests are here.

The cake is ready.

Everyone is ready and

waiting for the happy

event, but the groom!

He thinks of his wife to be,

wondering if she's got cold feet

Are is the wedding day jitters

just for grooms?

She stares at herself in the

mirror all dressed  in white.

He stands at the alter all

dressed and waiting.

The wedding march starts.

The groom feels faint.

The bride can hardly walk.

As she heads toward him

he smiles with glee.

Her eyes grows misty as

she starts to weep.

The bride and groom look

into each others eyes, each

lost in the glory that's ahead.

Once was the wedding day jitters

has turned into the wedding day bliss.

Loved this! The repetition really makes this poem, and shows us that even though we are man and woman, separate sexes, we are so much alike in our thoughts and emotions... :)

This is great! I never had an actual wedding. I can't imagine what it's like. Recently my friend got married and she literally passed out during the wedding. Ha! She's done that her entire life though. This is a darling poem.

Lovely sentiment with alittle comedy, I love it. My husband really struggled to stay on his feet during our ceremony. We made it through it and enjoyed our special day with a few laughs thrown in :) Thank you for reminding me of that day, it brought on a smile.

Never thought I see it through the eyes of a bride. Great job.

Very pretty, romantic, sweet - could almost be a greeting card...just a few grammar mistakes - guest s/b guests, and a few other things that I think you would catch with one or two read-alouds.

But very romantic! I liked it!

liked the interchangeable stanza's from him to her..and the thought processing of rational thought and gut feeling..happy ending though :)

I thought this was sweet! Write about the couple again after 5 years of marriage and see what they should have done!

I love the insights shared here.. the thoughts and feelings flowing so powerfully on that most special of days. Your words confess a truth about what goes on inside the mind, and your last lines share the beauty of what the day becomes!
