The Flower Garden

The Flower Garden

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A husband shows his love with flowers!

"

You never promised me a flower garden,

but that's what you gave me

for each year on my birthday

you planted a different flower

in our back yard in honor of me!

As each spring approached our backyard

became a rainbow of colors everywhere

there were roses vibrant in all shades of color

petunias, marygolds, mums, tulips, and many more

that added beauty in their own way!

I miss the times we shared in the garden,

watching the sun rise in the morning and set

in the late afternoon, listening to the birds,

crickets and frogs playing their nature sound

in a musical way that was so romantic!

Each day when I look out the window or

walk through that magnificent garden

my heart mourns for you!

I miss you each and every day

I wish I could turn back time

and have you with me once again

The day you died, I died inside

on the anniversary of your death

I take a flower from my garden

and plant it around your grave

in memory of my one and only love

I can almost hear you say,

"you never promised me a flower garden!

A beautiful and sad poem. The small gifts are the ones we will hold on to. I replanted my Grandfather roses for my Grandmother. The simple gifts given for love are always remembered. I like the story and the ending. A excellent poem.

Beautiful poem... so meaningful and touching!
I miss being given flowers by my fiance, but instead he brought me orchids and I have three of them, in three different colors sitting by the window in my kitchen. And every time they bloom, my fiance would say our love is blooming again. so sweet!
thanks for sharing and well done!..

So romantic and to me it is a great gift left behind to always bring back vivid memories every time spring arrives. I also like the gesture of bringing a flower to the rose site slower building a garden there as a tribute.

This could be my dad you are writing about. Every year he gave mom roses and other flowers. Thanks for sharing this.

Beauty always comes with a price, sometimes it's hidden beneath the rush..
Bittersweet, tender, yet sad.. I found myself sitting beside you, watching the sun rise and fall, while the croakers and crickets played softly on my ears.

so sweet....and sad but hopeful...makes me appreciate all those times my husband gave me flowers for no reason at all...just to share something beautiful

Wow this tells quite a sad but heart felt story. The imagery paints a beautiful picture of a flower garden and then one by one the plants are being moved to the grave side.
