Chess game

Chess game

A Poem by T. Jay Keigh

A mutual break in which

They both agreed

Though she felt her heart

Consumed into black.

And then they decided

To stay together

In the same place

Because as he put it

“It’d be comfortable.”

Check.

He was quick

An avid player

A new pawn everyday

Brought to his side

And behind closed eyes

The queen knew not what they did

But she could guess.

He gives a smirk

When the pawn leaves

And says

“Hope this is okay.”

Reversal.

Now it’s the Queen’s turn

To bring her first man

A black knight walks in

Hand in hand.

The white king glares

and begins to shout.

But the Queen ignores this.

Behind closed eyes

The white king knew not

What they were doing

But he could guess.

Check.

The white King falls

As the morning light comes

Tired from the long wait

The black knight approaches

And with a loud, guttural shout

The white king attacks

Driving the knight away.

The Queen steps close

To the king that is hers

And whispers in his ears

“Now you know how it feels.”

Checkmate.

this definitely describes the warfare between those who don't feel appreciated or wanted by their significant other. making the one you lost jealous, wanting you back being envious of the thought of others having you. I know i sound very materialistic, almost like an object but this is a comparison to chess anyways is it not?
