Love in AmericaA Story by RedThe X-files is a television show about unexplained phenomena. It stars two FBI Agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Fox Mulder is a modern day hero. He is a pure genius and a firm believer in the unexplained. He will believe almost anything. Dana Scully is a skeptic. She is a brilliant doctor and scientist. Dana Scully needs the hard, cold facts before she can even jump to a conclusion. Her strict rationalism has saved the day over and over. If I were to have to identify with one of them, it would be Scully. Like Scully, I have realistic beliefs and I really do want to believe. I am not saying that I can’t relate to Mulder, because he wants to believe his farfetched ideas are the truth. Relating to Mulder’s beliefs, I want to believe in world peace. I want to believe that there is good in all people. I want to see good in everyone. I want to believe that people will eventually stop killing one another. I want to believe that we can stop going to war. I want to believe that people will discontinue kidnapping children, robbing banks, terrorizing cities, and shooting each other. I want to believe that the world will be safe and everyone will be happy. I want to believe that is all plausible; however, that is a Mulder belief. I am Scully, as far as beliefs go. I believe in the truth. I believe that we are all on this planet for a reason. We would not know good if not for bad. There must be evil so the good can rise up against it. If you’ve seen television shows, there is a villain, and then there is a hero. Moreover, we would not know love, if not for heartbreak. We must completely break before we can feel what true love is. There must be crime so justice can be served. There must be serial killers, so law enforcement officers have a purpose. Maybe the whole point of our lives on this planet is to achieve the goal of world peace. However, we all have to do it together. One man cannot accomplish that task by himself. We must all choose together, as a whole; total love or total war? I believe there is a reason for our existence. Whether we are here to give someone else meaning, or to make a change, there is a reason. Without one thing, the other serves no purpose. After all, what is Yin without Yang? What is Pinky without Brain? What is Mulder without Scully? Two complete opposites make one whole. © 2013 RedFeatured Review
