Chapter 1A Chapter by SethA chapter He stirred in his sleep. A large beach waved in front of him.
Exotic plants stood hauled in the background. Eyes glowed behind the sloped
leaves. It was night. he towered over the
spectacles of sand that cowered under him at the edge of the beach, Where land
and water met. His body moved mechanically, as if not soothed by the humanly
natural sights. Before long animal surrounded him, biting and hissing, prancing
around in a rhythmic pace. Then it was over. His eyes snapped
open met by a flush of reality. Questions poured into his head. What could that
have been? Is that what land was like, animal attacking you in the beauty of
moonlight? It was nothing like what the teachers had taught him of, poisonous
air, dead things, and collapsed civilizations, aside from the vicious animals.
That had never been mentioned, or was that just a vision of his fear collecting
into a seeable image? Before long he grew tired of asking
himself un-answerable questions, and leaped out of bed. The metal floor clanged under the
patter, patter of his feet. He quickly undressed and threw on standard issued
submarine cloths, a gray shirt and plain pants. He walked into the bathroom part of
his quarters and grabbed his toothbrush. He looked up and saw his reflection.
Blue eyes, matted down black hair, and a thin wiry body. He sneered, laughing at himself,
brushed his teeth, and headed out of the quarters. Commotion rushed past everywhere.
Women carried their babies to the infirmary for checkups, men rushed to their
jobs, and students squirmed around to get to school. He joined the student’s, but soon
split off following his own path. It took him longer to get to class, but
allowed him to avoid possible injury. The ceiling loomed 20 feet above him
separating the living area from the garden area. Huge varieties of plants grew
on the surface level, which was flat faced specifically designed for this
purpose on this submarine. The submarine hadn’t been underwater since its
departure 200 years ago. He was born on this ship and would
probably die on this ship. His father had died from an accident before he was
born and his mother had died during his birth so he had no family aboard. He passed by a large entry that led
to a room where workers processed solar energy into fuel. His eyes eventually focused back on
the hallway before him. Plain white walls seemed to emanate a crazy aura, both
bright and ugly. There were few people in this hall
wandering around, but other than that there was no major traffic. He turned to
the left and right and was met with two doors. One that was locked, the teacher
entrance to the school, and an emergency exit from the packed hallway filled
with kids waiting for a day of learning. He opened the emergency exit and
joined the crowd of children waiting for the gates to open. © 2012 SethAuthor's Note
