The First Meditation

The First Meditation

A Poem by Colleen

Quiet room,

Comfy chair,

Incense clouds

Fill the air.

Breathe in, one

Breathe out, one

Breathe in, two

Breathe out, two

Sudden crash,

Paws on the floor,

Cats are scratching

at the door.

Breathe in, one

Breathe out, one

Breathe in, two

Breathe out, two

Mosquito’s buzzing

Fills my brain,

Back starts aching,

Legs feel pain.

Breathe in, one

Breathe out, one

Breathe in, two

Breathe out, two

Did I finally get it?

My mind’s at ease.

Hands rest limply

Upon my knees.

Breathe in, one

Breathe out, one…

Finally waken,

Eyes are weepy,

Brain so fuzzy,

Still so sleepy.

Hours spent

In silent slumber.

Stretch…

Breathe in, one

Breathe out, one

Breathe in, two

Breathe out, two

This is a cute little diddly about what it takes to meditate and the interference which life insists on interjecting, especially when we are trying to shut it out. Sounds to me like your first meditation was successful in spite of the interruptions.
The structure is very smart and I love the way you split your reality. This echos our efforts to be and to not be all at once and is an instructional device. Very nicely done.

The writing format was very cute for this! Not only that, but I love meditation. I used to do it a lot when I practiced martial arts- very well written. You described the feeling of meditating to the "T" :)
