Escape

Escape

A Poem by icelandicblue

There is no greater love than to give your life for another,
or so the man says. But the definition of life is nebulous.
I have given mine yet I breathe, eat and barely sleep.
Perhaps we are already dead and no one has told us.

Should I take the poison or you?
Perhaps you would prefer the blade?
Both ways suit us perfectly, but it matters not,
there is always a mess left behind for someone else to clean.

I suffer for you
I suffer with you
I suffer because of you
I would suffer without you

Emotional spatter clings to the wall
as Jackson Pollack smiles with approval.
The world is misaligned, the stars are crossed
the universe continues to spin making us nauseous.

Our pain is a level five contagion.
You are lost and I am your lost light.
Grab my hand and run through this forest
teeming with despair, darkness and dependency.

We are tied together like escaped fugitives.
The run is slow as grasping thorns turn toward us.
This war has demanded our lives in advance,
and the treaty has no intention of being signed.

Hot ash falls from the sky
in a pryroclastic explosion of thought
traveling exponentially toward the
slippery slope of our escape.

Dare we look for the place where light
dapples through darkened branches?
Does the truth linger there?
Still we know the truth is highly overrated

as we flagellate ourselves with the edge of it.
Truth is freedom's dirty little secret,
but we will ask her to unlock our bindings
and free us from each other despite the empty echo.

Thank you so much for your kind words.
I have often pondered how alike we are to flowers, living but to die. We may not be, but we are on the way. Once we have been uprooted, there's no turning back. A well-worn lock becomes rusted with time, but a key can set us free.

I wrote once of love's river and how I had to drown to find my way across. So much so with life, we have to die in order to be set free. And so we endeavor onward, come what may, hoping the end will not be the end but a beginning that is beyond our present understanding.

Your writing is so beautiful!

I feel this way at times... It is like a build up of explosions to fuel a rocket to reach "escape" velocity and be free to explore the universe.... However... there is no atmosphere in the cold void of space and you are fee to do and be nothing in your little rocket ship of self. I suspect... ;)

A great poem to capture the angst of being in human relationships.

Thank you David for your insightful comments. It's always nice to see you.
This is mondo. I love how you tie deep questions (and answers) to such intricately contrasting and rich metaphors. Your lexicon is on point and your sound is subtley smooth and complex. I am glad that I stumbled across your work, thanks for sharing~ :)

You have a certain truth to your words
So much one can give up
for a principle to live above a person's physical existence
to birth a new way

All in all i couldn't agree with you more
Truth is the biggest secret of Freedom's way
And pollack is a genius

good job

It's funny how when you are writing certain truths are revealed. The line about truth and freedom ha.. read more

Truth like hope is abused, and far too often, misused. What grows from words such as yours however is a feeling that maybe - just maybe, when we choose to stand against the messiest bog or most complex labyrinth life offers, it can turn its back in fear. its tricks are challenged, its deceits are diluted.

Your writing is so powerful.. not in an antagonistic manner but in its honest rawness. I could read and read your majestic words, seeing their twists and turns and maybe see another picture. Maybe I'm wrong.. but then, maybe you want folk to think and think.. and think.

Smiling into my sleep world... thank you for that.
Oh My !
This is exquisite !
Some things are written straight from the bowels of truth, weather it be a rough or easy journey.
This had to be a rough journey to observe and feel through it to describe it so well.
I wouldn't of wanted the job. it must of been painful while trying to step out and observe to describe it.
It was painful enough for me to relive it through your write.

This is something that needed to be said. You did an excellent job.
I'm sending (((((((((((((Big Hugs))))))))))))))) out of gratitude.

You are courageous and your Heroism is noticed and appreciated. Someone had to do it. :-)

Thank you so much Cryingkate I appreciate your empathy and your kind words.

I would say be suspect of any who says they can offer 'the' truth … but the only one I have found is that there is mind and energy … mind is the creator and energy the stuff of creation. The mind both, wittingly and unwittingly, with thought, creates energy; more thought and the energy coalesces to form. Observe your thoughts as you obviously do with aplomb and up the dose of wittingly:) Fantastic piece as always, Icyblue.

Thank you for such an insightful and beautiful response. ; )
yes, i think it is true...we are already dead and no one told us....often hearts die long before the bodies...and we are merely breathing...and we stop looking for that truth that can really set us free and let us live again.
