Endless Musings of Illuminated Footsteps

Endless Musings of Illuminated Footsteps

A Poem by icelandicblue

The sun set gently behind
my golden clouded dreams.
I sat in the dark and waited,
the moonlight had abandoned me.

Darkness is a place of duality,
it is cool and smooth, a place to hide.
It is a cold box filled with fear
and brimming with suffering.

Life can be such a sucking chest wound,
first for triage, last for happy endings.
A fallacy it is, so counter intuitive and final;
it is after all more end than beginning.

I want it to end, but to what ends?
So I wrap myself up in endless musings
and hope perhaps that tonight the moonlight
will step out so I might follow her footsteps.

-- it's difficult to write about thoughts that crush... and it's even more difficult to write about moments when we try and transcend the prison that "darkness" tries to imprison us in... but you dance with grace, dear poetess... -- this poem is much like a ballet... -- it's got beautiful choreography... and it's rendered with measured movements... -- exquisite work...

I hope that the moonlight did step out because that feeling will definitely lead to another one of your lovely poems

Thanks Cassie. The moon is always there if I need her.
Intoxicating talk of endings and moonlight... "but to what ends?" I know not.

Who does? A wonderful philosophical question.
Ice, this is so incredibly beautiful and metaphorical. You are a gifted writer. A new favorite! It is sad, tragic, emotional, and wrapped in endlessly beautiful imagery. Thank you!

Thank you so much.
dear poet ... following in the moon's
footsteps... a trail with moonbeams
at your feet. Listening to night owls
like the chords on a Viola... Stars
illuminating the deep midnight blue.
Beautiful poetry. truly , Pat

Thank you very much for such a visual review.
I think there is great courage to be gleaned from the dark. Only by embracing the darkness can we find our way into the light. Great job!

This is a wonderful see-saw of thoughts and outcomes here. You write of the dark, touch the feel of it but underneath those words is a gradually increasing light. I always find your words encouraging, they rarely if ever jar the mind or heart.. more - you add add layers to emotion. That's a true skill on your part. This is writing at its best.. .. '

Thank you emmajoy. I appreciate it.

The thing is … that darkness depends on our thoughts … it does not exist without them. Fabulous write, Icyblue.

Yes life can be a sucking chest wound indeed… Sometimes we complain about life but in the end will do anything to keep living. Human beings, what can yo do? :)

It is a conundrum. Thanks so much Dale!
"Darkness is a place of duality.. " Well written in few words. Life brings people a loaf of darkness even in the days of their smiles. So, it's true, solitude's only the way to look more at into the depth of ones spirit deeply and exchanging thoughts with heart to or not to beloved with love and the illusion of its dreams. Beautiful imagery you've come up with. Liked it. Well done!
