The Irony of Time

The Irony of Time

A Poem by icelandicblue

Re: Daylight Savings Time

"
Fatigue and ennui
those dastardly twins
have sapped the very
marrow from my bones.

The bare trees clack in the wind
as I walk by as if to wake me
from this stupor that befalls me
whenever the seasons change into their woolens.

The blasted clock saves me no time,
instead it wreaks havoc with my circadian rhythm.
When I wake I do not recognize the morning sky
and evening seems much too ready to jump out from the shadows.

My sluggish body languishes in the time
of just the other day, while my responsibilities insist
that I step to this foreign schedule and I wonder why...
a policy to save energy has completely zapped me of mine.

An amazing season write reaching down to the finest depths of expression and winter imagery. In short … I love.

I did … a real classic for me:)
yes, yes...this began for us back in the caves when the season slowed on the horizon and we hunkered within ourselves, sluggish to leave the fire, facing the need for sticks and herbs and a slow rabbit

A long and checkered history then. Thanks for your thoughts.
"who knows where the time goes" as judy collins sang.

and this poem reminds me so much of me yesterday...exactly how i felt...the extra hour's sleep seem to have the opposite effect on me...i was more worn out.

it's the season's change...and that early darkness in the evening...such a damper.

nicely visual poem, Anne.

That is the absolute truth! Thanks BR.
Ah, this is how I feel in the spring. I actually always like this change, because I like waking up to the light, but I do understand your meaning.

I hate them both equally ha ha. Thanks KL.
Only want to sigh, and go back to bed. I hate this switching of time, as it wrecks my internal clocks, for several weeks, before my body adjusts, to the new reality. Have hard enough time, getting my proper sleep, as is. We can blame GWB, for the latest adjustment, to the daylight saving headache, as he move the time up for its start and back, for its end. And the world meekly followed him. Grrrr. A beautiful and poetic rant, Icelandicblue.

Best solution is, do away with it, as most businesses are operating 24/7, anyways.
It seems the oder we get the harder it is to adjust to the time change. Amazing what difference an hour can make.

I don't understand why they still do it anymore. Some states actually don't.
