Murmur Sweet

Murmur Sweet

A Poem by icelandicblue

I found myself upon a road
an adventure it might be,
and so that day I followed it
a girl both wild and free.

I saw the wildlife watching
to see where I might go,
I knew not yet my travel plans
feeling a bit like old Thoreau.

And as the sun reached up
to take his place on high,
I looked up to feel the grace
that filled the cobalt sky.

A tree then did invite me
to rest beneath her bough,
so feeling quite fatigued
I slept there for a while.

And when I did awaken
refreshed I felt anew
and knew the road I'd taken
did more than just pass through.

it was a journey pure
both body and in spirit
my heart began to murmur sweet
and I could finally hear it.

The title of this poem is perfect because this is exactly what this poem does and it really hits the bullseye, Anne. I love how descriptive this one was and how it had quite and uplifting beat to it....

You write marvellously.

I truly appreciate that...I love that you found it uplifting.
Whoa Anne, this reminds me of Cohen's Boogie Street and you know how much I adore his poetry and talent. There's a spiritual undertone here, we all wait with bated breath to realize those truly awake moments and perceptions in time embrace.

"Tho' all the maps of blood and flesh
Are posted on the door,
There's no one who has told us yet
What Boogie Street is for."

Brava, this is one of my all time favorites!

Your welcome
strong ending ..love the Thoreau reference .. anytime one can fall asleep in nature is blessed ... its a feeling i recall as a young boy during the winter, playing outside in deep snow ... i use to fall back into a drift and the comfort and peace and temptation to fall asleep was quite strong ... i understand it is a good way to freeze to death however ;) and according to Hobbit lore be sure the tree is not old man Willow ... love your poem ..enjoyed it much on this Sat. morning ..we may truly get some heat in the day ..

This poem reminds me of the Buddhist monk who goes to a hot dog vendor and the vendor asks him "Hey buddy what can I make ya?" and the monk says "Make me one with everything". I find that all things that exist are relative. That there is a connection of all elements. You've presented some of them here for us to read. Excellent! :)

Thanks Raymond,
I too believe in that oneness.
A great poem about the oneness of the human spirit with nature. The peace, calm and self-realization one can only experience in the beautiful outdoors. The best way to get in touch with oneself again. You expressed this thought incomparably beautifully.

Thank you Divya and I agree with you about finding ourselves through nature.
And when I did awaken
refreshed I felt anew
and knew the road I'd taken
did more than just pass through.

One does not know the way, I suppose, but we have a sense of the destination. Fabulous, Icyblue.

Thanks so much for such kind words Pryde.
The title is perfect because this poem does murmur sweetly. Its filled with a comforting lightness. Ive always believed that our soul is where our personal healing begins. Sometimes when life is filled with pain and hardship we must turn inwards and search for solace. This is a lovely write Anne..x

No problem :)))
It's the journey that refines and defines us, isn't it? No matter the number of dips and obstacles and our choice to go forward or to remain there, life's journey and its road are there to shape us.
