Whispered Mortality

Whispered Mortality

A Poem by icelandicblue

Mortality courts me lately
whispering time is a game
played beautifully by children
.

I am embroiled in a shadow war
riddled with bullets,
no bodies yet in sight.

Deeper into the dark cosmos
I slip across the continuum-
no longer a lifeline but a tightrope.

As precious blossoms of life
slowly peel away I am able to finally see
beauty in its simplest forms

and savor the moments for I understand
that sometimes big dreams
have the ability to swallow you whole.

Blue, you show artistry in your sorrow. You pen hope in your hopelessness. You savor the now of remembering...
In light of the realities of life, I find your poetry full of so much strength.
You have friends who love you and pray for you even when you are unaware.
I hope you continue to feel the "Life Line", even as it is stretched thin.
Sending you much love and comfort,
Scott.

Thank you so much David and you are right I do look desperately for the hope in the hopelessness. Yo.. read more
Oh Anne, your poems leave me breathless and speechless... I honestly cannot tell you how amazing you are and how strong you are. I think we understand life more as we grow up, we understand why things happen and why the don't. We have a better more mature knowledge.

Thank you so much Noodle.
love the wisdom in your poem ... first verse is stunning in simplicity ... my own life unrolls through the body and we are left in the last verse with this great advice ... few under thirty can grasp ... ohhhh if they would ....if only i would have ... gratitude, breathing, comfort and peace are sooooooooo much easier ... nice job says i

As time changes so do we. Thank you Einstein.
time is a game
played beautifully by children...

This is a perfect line all by itself; reminds me of the quote that goes: "Death tugs at my ear. 'Live!' he says, 'I am coming!'"

We understand so much more of the beauty of Life as we get older; the frustration is that we cannot share that wisdom with the young.

That is the catch 22, that wisdom must always be earned. Thank you so much for reading and commentin.. read more
Incredible writing and insight... That first stanza sits you down and readies you for a deep lesson. Awesome!

Thank you very much for that.
Well I like that and me too...you understand all too well after you get past a certain age and isn't it ashamed that all this wisdom doesn't come until then and your children won't get it until their knees buckle and they have to say, "O that's what this is what that was for". Great write.

They have the time to play. Icyblue you have such a sophisticated pen, the thoughts and expressions that lie within are impressive, indeed.

Thank you Pryde, I appreciate it.
This feels like a complete poetic trip from adolescence through adulthood, to that point where mortality becomes real. I like it ... but I don't like the mortality that it reminds me of.

I know of that mortality you speak of. Having lost both my parents now I somehow feel next in line. .. read more
