Why I Hate The Happiest Place On Earth

Why I Hate The Happiest Place On Earth

A Poem by icelandicblue

I despise the happiest place on earth
fake smiles upon faces of plastic mirth.
The lines are long and the sun beats down
while people stroll through Disney town.

It is like a mecca for some each year
leaving their towns grinning ear to ear.
To see the mouse or perhaps a queen
along the streets so wide and clean.

The children of course love it all
until they're tired and begin to bawl.
But mom and dad have paid for a day
so then a whole day they shall stay.

And those whose children are now grown
to different adventures they have flown.
Their parents still come back to this world
never realizing experiences unfurled.

For culture they traipse off to Epcot
to see the world sans passport.
They speak savoir faire so wittily
It's just like they're in Paris or Italy.

So I have done my American duty
my kids had pics with Sleeping Beauty.
Now there's a real world to discover
and I've got a lot of new ground to cover.

We enjoyed the Disney parks with our children for many years...
Now we go to the national parks like, "Yosemite" and "Yellowstone"... Each experience has a blessing to receive I think, but I am valuing natures entertainment much more these days.

You take me back though.

It's a Cinderella story, I guess. Not everyone aspires for a Prince Charming but everyone aspires for a better standard of living. Walt and marketing achieved a dreamlike world that we can sometimes despise but which many secretly dream of. For the families who hope to create some bonding time by going to these theme parks, it's not always going to happen. Better spend time at home doing things together or spending meals interacting with each other. Good memories don't have to involve expenses.

I grew up worshiping at the altar of Disney. It was a childhood dream to visit Disneyland, and I didn't go until I was 19. I suppose seeing it later on with my kids was a pain, but the kids had fun and that was enough for me.

Disney turned into just another cold corporation with a penchant to maximize profits after Walt died. Not that he was a complete Saint, though he walked on water in my book, yet making money was secondary to Walt; or at least that's what I choose to believe. The two newest movies give me hope that part of his spirit lives on though. "Frozen" is epic Disney animation. The song writing is top notch, animation superb, and the story will tug at your heart. "Saving Mr Banks" made me want to watch Mary Poppins all over again and by itself, it's a wonderful movie.

Disney never meant to be about anything other than entertaining children. The parks have become money machines, but they are that simply because they do entertain children I guess.

I agree! And I met more than a few of them.
I love this poem because I loath Disney World,. At least bush gardens has animal habitats and awesome roller coasters. All Disney has is long a*s lines for lame a*s rides. F#ck that noise
