Why I Hate The Happiest Place On Earth

Why I Hate The Happiest Place On Earth

A Poem by icelandicblue

I despise the happiest place on earth
fake smiles upon faces of plastic mirth.
The lines are long and the sun beats down
while people stroll through Disney town.

It is like a mecca for some each year
leaving their towns grinning ear to ear.
To see the mouse or perhaps a queen
along the streets so wide and clean.

The children of course love it all
until they're tired and begin to bawl.
But mom and dad have paid for a day
so then a whole day they shall stay.

And those whose children are now grown
to different adventures they have flown.
Their parents still come back to this world
never realizing experiences unfurled.

For culture they traipse off to Epcot
to see the world sans passport.
They speak savoir faire so wittily
It's just like they're in Paris or Italy.

So I have done my American duty
my kids had pics with Sleeping Beauty.
Now there's a real world to discover
and I've got a lot of new ground to cover.

I've never been there. I found your poem both witty and real. there's a deeper meaning here.

Forced happiness isn't really happiness at all.
I never got to go and so I have an inner child who wishes my parents didn't dislike it there. Boo hoo. But this is great, really valid. I have 4 kids and grew to hate taking them ... well, anywhere. Lol

Thanks for sharing and visiting.
Been there, done that...running and bumping through the crowds, dragging the kids, with my pocketbook wide open! Super job summing it up!

Thanks Sharon, sounds like you summed it up pretty well yourself.
I like the double couplets rhyme on each stanza. You've been to Disney World ....Can't wait to come back there some time ....

Thanks so much for reading Neil.
While I don't hate the happiest place on earth, I can see how it would grow tiresome. Quite frankly, I disliked the crowds...

Better to travel the world than to travel the world through Epcot. Although, I understand, not an option for everyone.

An interesting piece. I wonder what prompted it...?

I wasn't wild about Disney World either, Anne, but Epcot had some very special rides - we very much enjoyed the dinosar adventure. Quite a thrill. It was a once in a lifetime trip for us, and our son loved it, so that made it all worthwhile. I preferred Las Vegas and would return there again if I could. I enjoyed reading your poem, it brought back some good memories and gave me the chance to think about something I ordinarily wouldn't have.

Great piece! I've been to Disney World with my children, it was a bit overwhelming for me. I loved the perspective of this, and again, the title is so attractive! Lol

That we do... You are quite welcome. Your pen has been on fire as of late, keep them coming!
I successfully avoided going to Disney until I was married. Friends talked us into going, a couple who fought the whole week. Lines, crowds, rides I didn't like... worst trip ever. There are so many better places to go. You have captured my feelings about that soulless vortex perfectly, Blue!
