Shards of Splendor In The Gloom

Shards of Splendor In The Gloom

A Poem by icelandicblue

The silver lining slit my wrists
the unicorn impaled me,
slid off the rainbow, broke my neck
now I hang from the old birch tree.

I'd love to smell the flowers
It be grand to laugh so loudly,
but glassed in such misfortune
quiet! or it shatters very soundly.

I want to write of happiness
velvet petals in full bloom,
but lately all I seem to find
are shards of splendor in the gloom.

So should you find a  clover
hold it tight unto your heart,
and maybe, oh just maybe,
it will give you a fresh start.

Thanks so much BR...love your descriptions too.
A beautiful write. You have meshed hope and despair with brilliant emotion to weave a magnificent web of verse. The simple rhyme, the title, and the flowing grace of your words hooked me throughout the entire read. Well done!

Thank you so much Gleb. I am happy you saw both sides of the coin in this.
Your title had me hooked, Icelandicblue - And as I read I began to love this piece more and more; it's been the best piece I've read so far (I realise I sound like a dork as I'm new here, ha!)

Well welcome! We're happy you are here!!
Which is precisely how I've been feeling these days, about most everything. I love this one to death, especially the first stanza...it's so easy for me to relate to this. Sometimes the silver linings are actually grey, but they're as close to silver as we can get. Wonderful work.

Thank you my friend :)
This is brilliant! Shards of light, however small, are still shards of light...that gloom can brighten, you just brightened my horizon :) Loved this x

It is wonderful hon x
why is it so hard to write of lighter things...I think tragedy and pain move the pen...

"I'd love to smell the flowers" too...but I think they are all dead or dying..

oh well...jarring images in this...a well penned piece.

Thank you sweetbind for your enlightening review.
Ignoring the gloom will not make the shards less sharp or more beautiful. Yet by looking into the sticky mess, we will see the light and we will learn, remember, or even forget...
The last stanza felt very hopeful. I think you captured strength in the gentle plucking of a green clover...
Well done blue.

Thanks David- I'm trying really hard. I appreciate your support.
I feel another time jump here by your beautiful hourglass imagery of time jumps, deep-rooted, and impaled with beautiful phrasing ... your clover ending is neat, and very special to me, I will tell you one day why, you did inspire me to write something soon.... as always Anne, your roots, walk through your veins, as I read them, feel them, live them.
