Weep Not For Me This Christmas

Weep Not For Me This Christmas

A Poem by icelandicblue

Weep not for me this Christmas

as you lay the Yuletide boughs.

I am free from all this sickness,

I am at peace I can avow.

You feel this loss profoundly

when surround by delight.

Please know I loved you soundly

Sweet love 'twill be all right.

My soul calls now for fields

free to embrace the coming cold,

my heart be finally healed

at birth sorrows were foretold.

Life loses its sweet shine

and our many moments  fleeting.

For always I'll be thine

though my heart has now stopped beating.

I will lie beneath this meadow deep

I shall sleep the sleep of sages.

Visit still, yet do not weep

for I am now the dust of ages.

A beautiful poem, full of emotion. I love your way with words, and this truly captures the pain of a first Christmas without a recently departed loved one...wonderful. A very eloquent understanding of this painful time and the wishes of the lost relative or friend.

Thank you Hampstead Poet for visiting and for your kind comment.
Such a poignant write, my friend. Deeply emotive! It's true, the holidays are the most difficult time for those who have lost loved ones. We think of them and wish they were still with us, but they would want us to enjoy the holidays. Your words are written from the heart and rhymed flawlessly. Absolutely stunning work. Lydi**

It is I who should thank you for reading and commenting.
This is up there with Wilfred Owen, Sassoon etc.

A passionate yet powerful, reflective, remembrance, penned with such pathos !

I am honored beyond words Tom, truly. I cannot read Dulce et Decorum est without weeping myself.

OUCH. And I mean that in a "in awe of the depth of emotion" way. This is an achingly beautiful goodbye. Filled with grace and peace, and it wrenches my little ornery soul.

Nothing like a little melancholy during the holidays. ; )
Beautiful Anne, it almost made me weep though, so much emotion, I felt here.

You give a beautiful, serene and lyrical touch to this poem ... your language, also classic. It's a grieving process, but with a lot of courage and strength.

The perfect symbolism here.

"My soul calls now for fields
free to embrace the coming cold"- I like how we experience the perspective of the one leaving this world. It struck me as oddly peaceful. Reads like a goodbye melody, something very lyrical about this one...

A beautiful and tragic dirge... I think we all feel the sting of loss a little deeper during the "holidays", but I like the POV that you have chosen, showing us that those who are no longer there would not want for us to weep, but to celebrate life and the memories of what has been. Lovely writing.
