A Box of Paradox

A Box of Paradox

A Poem by icelandicblue
"

Weird ramblings of an overtaxed mind.

"

The living earth
houses dead
children beneath
her skin, and

in death greatness is
discovered by zealots
who spill blood
for a thirsty god,
and find themselves
revered in his place.

The child who was
wanted then wasn't,
its birth a gift
then a prison.

The old man's mind
no longer holds
his son's name. Yet
his sire still insists
on calling him father.

Is my clone really
me if it has
no memories?

A box of paradox
is tied up tight beneath
my bed, but I sleep
no better for it.

Anne, we will always ask, always ask, we feel we have no choice in the matter. There will always be questions that hold our minds hostage and until the day arrives when we realize that there are no answers, we will continue to ask.

Extremely well done my friend. I really did enjoy the thoughts this piece provoked in me.

Thanks Jack-
I think there are many of these things that occupy our minds at time.
i see some real sadness in this, the unwanted child...the father whose memory has so lapsed he can't remember his child's name...

those who want and can't have, those who have but don't want.

that itself is a paradox...and very sad one at that.

I agree jacob, so many paradoxes are sad and confusing. I appreciate your thoughts.
Aaahh...the ever present paradox. I think that all the answers to everything we could ever need reside within us, but that is not to say that we will ever fully understand them or dig them up. Some people go their entire lives without really understanding anything...relying on regret, pain, hatred, etc. This was a tightly written piece that evoked a great deal of emotion. Well done.

That box is indeed the monster under the bed - no matter how secure we think things are, there are so many things beyond our control or our understanding. Your opening image has my mind turning. This is a well crafted rambling, Blue.

Sometimes an overtaxed mind can give great ramblings.... as this is great art, Anne.

All these wanderings, and wonders, are well mixed up in your write,
I felt this was a combination of the past, and how things will go further,
mixed with a slight of fantasy.... well done, great write.

Paradoxes are my kind... ;)
