The Light is Different

The Light is Different

A Poem by icelandicblue

The light is different in the fall,
it no longer explodes through stained glass
and tumbles down stairs to rest
in bright puddles on hardwood floors.

It's birth is now more difficult
as the sun begins to hang anemically
in the hammock of the sky; its brightness
subdued by lethargy, fog and darkness.

Night is becoming bolder, more self-assured,
holding onto its realm more tenaciously
with the knowledge that reinforcements
are on their way from the north.

However, the battle is not yet won
as the sun finds her lambent tongue
and speaks to the trees burnishing
their flaming leaves against the cerulean sky.

The light is different in the fall,
It beckons the beauty of the season
to emblazon the earth with colors of fire
before the kingdom of white rules once more.

oh my! love this one! a tale of the age old battle of the sun and the night, the sun in ancient myths swallowed up by the snake of the night, chasing it away again in the morning. A super rendition here in beautifully crafted, yet spontaneous lines, bursting with rich imagery. This is a beauty.

Thanks for finding this one and reading it.
Ah, what beauty! Romantic poetry can inspire us to see nature in ways we haven't seen before. Indeed, light is different in the fall. I knew I was going to love this poem as soon as I saw the title, and I was not disappointed at all.
"tumbles down stairs to rest"
"hang anemically"
"their flaming leaves against the cerulean sky"
are all top notch images! You're a master at writing like this. Another poem of yours into my favourites!

Thanks so much, I am pleased that you liked this.
I am riding on the coat tails of Autumn as the brisk winds of a world of white comes whisking in and I realize I am only able to do so as the battle of the ages between fall and winter has once again called for a truce and the leaves must bow down before the King of The North. They know they must bow only for a time as all shall pass and shall come the calm in the winds of war when they may once again hang suspended in the splendor of spring and summer until fall arrives to reign, and the war one more rises up its angry head to make them fall.

Your descriptions are exquisite.........your poem equally as majestic!

Another favorite of mine!!
