i grew up in upstate NY where a beer called Gennesee was brewed and sold. the "Gennesee Girl was the main sales image for the beer. i was completely enamored with her and one year she appeared at our state fair. when i saw her she was worn a bit with holes in her black fish net stockings and i was sad for her and when i walked away she walked out of my dreams. i love what you are saying for this woman...tragic as the bottle empties ... hate it that the men who used her can walk away without a thought...

the woman gives, the men take more of her self-worth away each time...
sooner or later she feels dead red...but not in the gorgeous sense..she feels worn down by life....and has not gotten back half of what she has given...
tragic piece...full of intense feeling.

Hi jacob- I appreciate your reaction to the poem. Thanks so much.
Such saddness mixed with such abounding beauty... I feel the longing here; the full depth and clarity of a woman who has seen the world and given more than she has been given herself. Fantastic metaphor, and great imagery. I'm enamoured by this one. Well done, my friend!
This is a great metaphor, and you carried through beautifully. You want to say she'll get better with age, but something about those measured gulps makes me think that soon there will be vinegar...
Sounds like an aging femme fatale, love that you compared her lustiness to Brodeaux...really conjures up quite an image and feel for this one....outstanding!

This actually reminds me of someone, you're welcome...always my pleasure Anne.
A wonderful character study, Anne. So much implied and much room left to dream. Almost reminds me of Marilyn, except your "hourglass girl" is dark and not blond. I just hope she escapes Marilyn's tragic fate.

I like your take on this one Joyce. Thanks so much, I'm afraid things don't look good for her.
I do not accept any new friend requests unless we have read and commented on each others poetry. No exceptions. I have enough homework as it is. I expect reciprocity in our exchanges. Read my work and.. more..
