The Sinner's Club

The Sinner's Club

A Poem by icelandicblue

Choices divide
us, we saints
and sinners.

Traversing lines
of minuscule width-
driven by faith
we foolishly balance like
gymnastic school dropouts,
wavering and wobbling  in
decadent style.

And only the fall of paragons
unites us in our
glorious flawed humanity,
for then we all gleefully dance
beneath the shadow side of the moon.

BlueIce..you captured and coined the right words and line here . " flawed humanity " ... We are indeed sinners by nature and by choice ... I wrote a simple Tanka similar to what you're referring here and the Title is Flawed ...

We are flawed, if we were not to what would we aspire I wonder. Thank you.
Yes, how very true. All of us sin, but only the mighty fall with the world looking on and gloating. I love your final stanza, especially, "for then we all gleefully dance/beneath the shadow side of the moon." A sad reflection on us. I will never forget Tiger Woods' fall. He was a true paragon who may never fully recover from his fall. You have a way with words that appeals to me, and I will be reading many more of your poems soon. I have to get up at 5 AM so bed calls now.

It's true, we revel in the fallen. I am not sure what about our psyches or DNA t.. read more
I love this! Keeping it real. :) saints and sinners for sure; but personally I am politico bent and read just a little of that into this. Love this! biting satire! we do all dance with glee at the fall of paragons ...if we disagree. :))
nice work

There are things that draw us together...thanks so much Einstein Noodle.
I believe we are all both sinner and saint. Maybe more one then the other. That's what makes us human...the constant inner struggle between good and bad. True saints are rare...as are complete sinners thankfully. And in the end it comes down to which one we feed the most. Fantastic poem Anne!

Thanks a lot Red. It's always a pleasure to see you.
Despite the freedom of choice, we all have that inner voice that guides us in what is right or wrong...some just choose to not listen.

Thank you Muse. You are right...we have free choice.
Flawed? Certainly there are few who can not be classified that way. We all have free will and, yes, we sometimes make questionable choices in life. I liked the ending of this poem....what an image that conjures for me. Great poetry. Lydi**

"glorious flawed humanity" so much weight in such a small line! Are we supposed to get member's cards? I think I dropped mine. lol
