I Am Witness

Walking along the hillside, where
faded barns sport newly painted
American flags that hover
in the distance,
I luxuriate
in the abounding green space.

The day is dotted with the scent of lilacs
and seamless cerulean skies.
Bridal Wreath bends beneath its own weight
and Queen Anne’s Lace regally
sways without the benefit of a breeze.

I am witness to beauty perfected by
the elements and cradled by the
earth. They bid me welcome with the
tacit understanding that I not tarry too
long and I leave all
in peace, for it is not mine to keep.

This piece has a very Walt Whitman sort of vibe to it, which I really like. The lines "I am witness to beauty perfected by/he elements and cradled by the/earth" especially gave me that feel. I also really like the calm tone that you have here, and the images you have. Oh, and the detail about the lilacs is a nice touch. I love lilac and its great went scent finds its way into poetry.
