Weightless Words

Weightless Words

A Poem by icelandicblue

Apologies are weightless
when putrefied platitudes are placed
on plastic plates that have been
left out too long beneath the delusions
of an angry sun.

Empty and self motivated apologies.... what apt metaphors you've used. I've never put stock in "I'm sorry". I'm jaded I guess. Heard those words too many times from people who would go right back to the same bad behaviour. Yes occasionally we make mistakes and should take responsibility. But you get to a point where you believe people should think before they do. Excellent write blue!

Thanks so very much!
Showing sorry is never as easy as saying it....and accepting an apology is sometimes even harder. Well said. P.

Cold indeed, thanks.
Bit of wisdom that just seems to grow as it is read. Great job.

Thanks so much for the comment.
I have been served up this dish way more than I care to admit. Yuck. Nicely done in so few words, Blue! I hope you are having a good day. Angi~

Hi Angi-
Today was a better day. Thanks : )
Very nice. Apologies are useless if the person has just developed a habit of doing wrong and than apologizing. Short and well written.

Thanks so much. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I saw the title and said to myself hmmm Ah a blank non contrite apology. Maybe forgive but never forget.

And some people dont see or dont believe an apology is necessary.

You are right, it would be ridiculous we'd all be running around saying "Sorry" "Sorry""Sorry"

Yes, some times it comes to the sensitivities of a person.
Excellent write! I think the only way forward after being wronged is to forgive and leave it in the past. Hard to do, but 'I'm sorry' is a difficult thing to convey true meaning. The forgiveness is for yourself, not the other person - just so crap doesn't eat you away from the inside out. Doesn't mean you shouldn't still walk in the opposite direction either...
I have to hear the person's voice, sometimes also good to see their eyes. I am very good at reading people and their level of sincerity.
A thought provoking read. Well done!

You are absolutely right- forgiveness is for the wronged to heal and move on. It is not something th.. read more
sorry is such an easy word to use, as if it solves everything..You are so right..apologies ARE weightless..(not always though)

You get a whole lot of punch in such a small space here....Maybe we should eradicate the word SORRY and make people work for a change

Well don't overwhelm him.
Very good Anne. I like this little piece as it speaks truth. I have heard meaningless "I'm sorrys" more times than I care to think about, my reaction (internally) is always..."why waste your breath?"

You have done a wonderful job with this one my friend. (still waiting on that smile)
