Firefly Summer

Firefly Summer

A Poem by icelandicblue

Memorable are the long languid days
where humidity hangs
like a heavy surcoat
and the smallest of breezes
offers a promise of relief
like an errant lover.

When the sun slinks slowly
beyond the grateful horizon
the fairies gather along dark roads
and manicured lawns.

And

then they light up the earth

as they dance against
the velvet sky, these
tiny stars,
scintillating sparks,
beneath the leafy canopy
of firefly summer.

Hello Blue,

A graceful dance of children on the city streets as they yell and play games of tag and kickball while their parents sit and watch in reminder of their early years in joy of what they brought to this earth. Elegantly reminded of soft smells of spring flowers touch the nose and the dusk slowy setting in with the bright lights of fairies dancing as children chase with their nets hoping, praying to catch one to make a wish.

Always,

Matthew
A.

Blue, quiet moments just like this are just what I wanted. I could picture nights sitting on the deck drinking well-chilled wine with my husband. Watching the stars flicker along with the fireflies made for some magical moments. Lovely. Thank you for submitting! Angi~

Thank you Angi I am honored by your review.
Simply, perfectly sublime. We don`t have fireflies in UK, but I remember a magical night on the Isle of Jersey with my future wife, when the only light along a lane was from stars and glow-worms in the hedgerows. Thank you, Blue. P.

You should have many many many published books of poetry! I know I'm not the only one who would buy them!!! GAH!!!

Good? No. Phenomenal.

Just saying.

Thanks a lot Rachel!
Ahhh, this takes me back. In my mind, I am a little girl again, squealing at the fireworks after the family Fourth of July picnic...laughing gaily as me and my cousins chase fireflies.
Thank you so much for sharing this fabulous poem.

A beautiful poem. I use to visit my dad in the mountains of Virginia. In the night. Fireflies lite up the sky. They were a beautiful sight to see. I enjoyed your description and photo. Good to enjoy the beauty of the night with the fireflies. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.
