Grub Street

Grub Street

A Poem by icelandicblue
"

Famous for its concentration of impoverished 'hack writers', aspiring poets, and low-end publishers and booksellers

"
Grub Street, where sots drink
ink from nearly dry pens and
pass themselves off as
gentlemen.

Where ladies don preferred
words under red lights,
scribing about their earthly
delights.

Low-enders resolve
to evolve from whence they
came, for time in the ditches surely
enriches

the stories they tell
despite where they dwell.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting.
Very cool, this dips the reader in your thoughts and leaves them wondering what happened. Nice.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it.
I`m becoming a fan, Blue. This is a cameo piece with a third stanza I envy. Superb. P.

Hello again. I am happy that you enjoyed this. I appreciate your kind words of encouragement.
I think everywhere has their grub st. We have one near the university, where you'd be mistaken for thinking it was the victorian era. Walk into a bar there and you'll soon walk out again. Desperation row would be a good description.
Like the feel you have given this. Everyone has hope of better things to come.

:-)
I hope I never end up there ;-) I rather liked the ending...all of it, really, but the ending especially. It's not abrupt at all, it's a perfectly acceptable denouement. Well done, blue...

Thanks for that, I appreciate it, and reading you is always my pleasure.
i like this a lot. it is earthy, downtown real and gritty. descriptive, poetic and interesting to read. unlike others i don't think it needs further embellishing, it is great as it stands and i would never presume to have the audacity to tell you how i think you should have written your own work. those people irritate me and i ignore them...your work its fine. be proud of it!

And you would be able to cheer them up too!
I like this poem....but I think one more resolving stanza would wrap it up...perhaps something personal about the character doing the observing ..just a thought ..thanks for the read

Thanks- yes it does end abruptly. I'll have to think on that.
I really like this one...'ink from nearly dry pens' great line!
