Truth to My Father

Truth to My Father

A Poem by Gemma Elizabeth
"

First poem I have ever attempted

"

I stare at a photograph,

Of you holding me.

You’re smiling down,

Happiest parent there can be

I know it to be all lies,

Mum told me the stories.

Of you pushing her around,

Causing me to arrive early.

No childhood memories of you,

None that I can recall.

Till I was fifteen,

All I had was this picture I hold.

Then you arrived into my life,

Drunk and breathing hard.

Demanding I call you daddy,

As you collapsed on the floor.

I gave you a chance,

Do you not remember?

A planned day out,

Just me and my Father.

I waited by the door,

As the hours past away.

Awaited the day out

That just never came.

I know why you didn’t come,

Not the lie that you told.

You said you had got mugged,

When really you were home.

I’m fresh out of chances,

You used all yours up.

I’m better off without you,

So please don’t come.

I already have a dad,

Afar better man then you.

You see your not needed,

That’s the bitter truth.

Captured the emotion of the whole relationship extremely well.

Amazing :D

It sucks to realise that some parents can really be like that. Your portrayed a real sad, sympathetic piece of poetry which shows you how let down and hurt the child is after being lied to by her dad. It was very moving and sad. Great work
