A Poem by icaros13

Surrounded, yet alone
Empty
Thought I was immune to loneliness
It has returned
What can be done when a piece of my soul
Has been taken, given freely?
A part of me is where you are
Where do you keep it?
Do you hide it away?
Do you keep it safe?
Are you aware you hold my heart?
Do I hold yours?
If only I could be so fortunate,
I would treasure it
Hold it close
Do my best to keep it from harm
Cherish it
Cherish you

You have such a sensitive and clean way of expressing your thoughts. These questions are those asked as budding lovers realize how vulnerable they are to each others devices. What answers are there that could assuage a solitary heart? They are out there, floating around a paper moon, just waiting to be discovered by the cosmic dreamer.

. i love the word "cherish" and this, for me, is a heartfelt and moving ode to that word and all that we cherish in our lives ... i have experienced this isolation ... this feeling of being at a loss when a critical part of oneself is missing ... and ... then ... i have found that the piece simply went to someone who was more bereft than me and i feel grateful for the opportunity to give a piece of me and complete someone else's soul ... just my thoughts after reading this absolute gem of a poem ...

About
For we have thought the larger thoughts And gone the shorter way. And we have danced to devil's tunes, Shivering home to pray; To serve one master in the night, Another in the day. ..I do love.. more..
