Awakened

Awakened

A Poem by icaros13

I was dead so long
Lost in the abyss
Numb in brain and heart
Utterly emotionless
I said, "I'm this way for my protection,
It just isn't worth the risk"
Closed  up so completely
No one could get in
While resting comfortably
A moment of unexpected beauty
Woke me from eternal slumber
Muscles aching and bones creaking
So long since anything was felt
All things seemed like pain
But as the ice began to melt
I was becoming me again
So many questions burning up my mind
Would this time be the same
Will I be torn and broken
Mangled, crushed, and maimed
But it really doesn't matter
For now that I'm alive
With this beautiful awakening
Came a new will to survive
No matter what the future holds
Be it peace, or be it strife
I'll always be a bit in love
With the one who saved my life

The verse of this piece is absolutely stunning. Emotion is present, as well as ideas and a relatable experience are all so accordingly shown. I'm being honest when I say that I haven't fallen in love with a poem like I have with this one in a very long time. It's wonderful.

this builds so well and then the beautiful awakening. there is
a sense that the one awakened will not be so easily put down again.

This was a lovely write. I like how clearly and precise you've displayed your emotional disposition, it's like rejuvenation.
