True, no matter how pretty something is, if it continually brings you pain it needs to be removed from your life. In the case of a flower, it's probably not intentional, and that's excusable to a certain degree but still at a certain point you should still step back and maybe admire the rose from a distance (maybe ruefully if you've gotten particularly scratched up). If the rose is symbolism however...... well the original point still stands.
