Very good! I believe that in Islam (for example) there is a greater jihad and a lesser jihad; the former being inner guiding principle and the latter being self defence (roughly). That would be semantics (perverted in a way). Ethics in a neutral sense, would be the study of morals or a set of morals (principles etc) as far as I understand matters.
5 stanzas that one can comment on forever. Great work!
Oh my, what a great point you've made. I love the impact of this piece and the wheels it gets turning. Very well-written. I commend you on the subject matter, as well!

i believe it is semantics, I believe in evolutionary progression with a destination somewhere beyond material realms, somewhere beyond the vein of a dark hole waits ...another realm of reality, another vibrational plane of existence. I think that very realm exists here we just have to finish this lesson first :P
:: i found my answers in albert einstein's quotes... along with something that i think an indian author said... :: religion is essentially codified ethics and spirituality is the pursuit of excellence in becoming more and more ethical (as opposed to moral because morality varies from culture to culture)... an atheist could well be spiritual... (not everyone needs to refer to codified ethics)... secularism, therefore, is something that should include believers and atheists... so, in that sense, yes, it's all semantics... there was an article in NYT recently that talked about these issues as well... i think it was a review of a book called "God in the Secular Age"...
For we have thought the larger thoughts
And gone the shorter way.
And we have danced to devil's tunes,
Shivering home to pray;
To serve one master in the night,
Another in the day.
..I do love.. more..
