The Idiot's Guide to AutobiographiesA Poem by icaros13_My mind went back, this morning To a dream that I once had When I was young and unassuming, A quite idealistic lad
God came to talk to me one night Whilst I lay asleep He said “Ask of me what you will, it’s yours, This promise I shall keep.”
My answer was not hasty I’d heard a story like this before I knew I must choose wisely From reading ancient lore
I considered all my heroes; Men of God that I admired Their weaknesses and strengths, And how they faced the fire
“I want the spirituality of Moses, None have been as close to You. No matter the obstruction, You cleared the pathway through.”
“I desire the heart of good King David. 'Most every blow he struck was just. He placed his feet within Your footsteps. He viewed vengeance with disgust.”
“The great wisdom of King Solomon Will be my last request. With these three, I’ve got it covered I can take care of the rest.”
The great Creator looked upon me Pride and sorrow in His eyes He said, “You chose a long hard road, But it just might be worth the prize.”
“You must know the solitude of Moses, To hear My voice that way. You can’t ignore the burning bushes I place in front of you each day.”
“You have to endure the trials of David, If you covet his soft heart. Self-sacrifice and empathy Is the best place you can start.”
“As for the wisdom of King Solomon, Every human holds the key. But most can’t bear the heavy burden Of objectivity.”
With divinely granted wisdom, I think, ‘Twould have been better for my health If I had only asked that fateful night For ignorance and wealth © 2012 icaros13Reviews
