The Weight On My ChestA Poem by ava KH
The weight on my chest
lying in wait ready to remind that it is like fate When you think you are happy, you think the weight is gone, you think the pain is over, and it has only just begun You feel it press pound, and suffocate, it drowns you in countless doubts you try to fight too late The weight on my chest hits you when you think it's done it comes in punching relentless, beating like the sun Maybe, you think the weight starts to lift when really the weight can only shift There is no way to beat it when it decides to show up the weight smothers you in feelings that you'll never be loved But sometimes you wonder how it might be if you could fend it off, if you might truly break free No then you remember the effort it'd take how you only know this familiar, empty ache You don't even try to protest for only trouble could you cause and the weight on my chest keeps you in its jaws © 2018 ava KHAuthor's Note
