christmas in Nigeria

christmas in Nigeria

A Poem by Ibidun
"

When I was a child I wished it could snow on christmas day but it didn't. I wished Mr. Santa will come my way. Now I am glad that Christmas is the way it is. No bells, Just silence.

"
What can I say of Christmas
I doubt that it exists
for every Christmas story
for me is but a myth

dashing through the snow?
I have not seen it snow
if truly santa's coming home
the atmosphere will show

what is this sleigh bell's jingle?
The kiss beneath a tree?
My ear it does make tingle
I insist it's trickery

Christmas in my side of town
is never spoken of
the cold, dry, misty feeling
of Sahara's heavy dust

for as the North-east trade
keeps residents indoors
it beats the south-west wade
to invade Alantic shores

Christmas is full of whispers
a pleasant silent night
no sleigh bells here nor reindeers
but our saviour, my delight
