Flood Warning

Flood Warning

A Poem by L.
"

If you know about the Thames Lions, and you know what a Torquetum is, let's marry.

"

I saw it on the coloured cards

And nailed to the door

The hand that lies curled in mine

Holds curving lines that warn

It’s written on the torquetum

With steady fingertips

The fate of every star aligned

Is on our touching lips

But as the streets of London

Pound with a thousand feet

I feel the banks are bursting

As the water and lions meet

The tunnels flood with water

I watch the bricks turn black

I salute to sinking London

And turn my broken back
