Where Nightmares SleepA Poem by ianscullHonestly, a real experience. Bad Medicine.I dreamt a dream having a DREAM that was having a Nightmare, And in that Place my Mind Wandered. I was on a path. A Path of Wonder. I Laughed, Ifrolicked, my heart grew fonder. The grass so green, the sky so blue. Everything around me a brighter hue. And then the wind came and with the change. The grass grew Tall and twisted with Age. I watched in horror and stared up at the sky. As blue turned brown I wondered why? I looked to the Path, the explanation came clear. I had to move and couldn’t stay here. As I walked they came, the voices, the sounds. All around me growing louder with each passing round. BLANK What? What I am? Or is it, Who am I? I don’t know. I cant remember. I wondered Why? What is THIS? This Creature? Or is it Friend? What is Friend? I see it. A ghostly mirage with no malintent. No worry? She should have been. We cant stay here. MUST GO. He silently followed, As I started to stroll. I cried, quietly as I started to Walk. A tear here, a tear there I knew better to talk. And then it Came. That loathsome Sound. A quake came deep beneath the ground. Where did it come from? Where is it be? How can I stop it? Does it See me? Then I saw it and I understood why. As giant cracks grew up to the sky. The Grass screamed a fearsome pitch. As the Trees sang bass down in the ditch. And so it seemed, it had to be. They wanted Me to die, they wanted to Kill Me. Promises. Promises of Pain. Step off the path and your blood will rain. Friend didn’t see. He just looked at me funny. Just walking along as my nose ran runny. But still I walked. Must follow the Path. Couldn’t stand still or suffer their WRATH. And so I walked, taking the sound. As the bass and soprano made fearsome round. I fell to my knees more than once My friend’s ghost stood by, the stupid dunce. As I wandered I knew time was not known As sound returned to ears twice blown. Eventually I came out. We were on our usual walk. My friend looked worried. I usually talked. He said I stared and said not a word. Said he was worried, extremely concerned. A laugh escaped me, lips so dry. As eyes returned to normal skies. I looked to my friend, a smile on my face. I had escaped from that horrid place Where none should travel, Down in the Deep In Dreams of Dreams, Where Nightmares Sleep.
