The Fair Mirror

The Fair Mirror

A Poem by iamshadowine

I stood in front of the mirror looking at my face,

What pretty eyes,

But there was no one to say.

I stood in front of the mirror,

With a pretty dress on,

I didn’t look ugly,

I wish I had a lover,

To say that ‘you are my somebody’.

I stood in front of the mirror

Copying the famous girl’s make up,

Oh! I looked pathetic with the fake beauty on the cover.

I stood in front of the mirror,

Looking at my smile

I wished I looked like the famous and started to cry.

I stood in front of the mirror,

Wiping off my tears,

Saying there’s going to be a day,

There is going to be your name,

But today you just have to be yourself

And that crying was just a mistake

These thoughts you had in front of your mirror make me sad but I can help.

I'm not sure whether you are still looking for what I offer but you can find out what that is by reading the book found on my profile dear.

It's hard when you look at yourself in the mirror and wish to be someone else that you think is special when being special is b just by being your own self with some confidence. This poem is really lovely, well done.

Although it is a great poem, I read the first couple lines and I couldn't read anymore... but let me actually read the whole thing first (...) ahhhh, yes, insecurities.... ow its all clear to me why I disliked it from the beginning... It was the insecurities part that wrangled me.... Nonetheless, it was a brilliant work of art!

Welcome
The message conveyed is excellent. When a person thinks of being like somebody- rather personalizing someone- then he is faced by severe frustration and disappointment. Drawing inspiration from the greats is good, but trying to be an exact copy of them is detrimental. When one tries to be oneself, then he/she will have that immense satisfaction which, otherwise, is not there. Beautiful. Keep writing.
