He who stalks the shadowsA Story by Seph NorthPart of my series o character backgrounds I've written for online roleplaying games. This is a character for a Werewolf: The Apocalypse game set in Berlin, shortly before the reunification of Germany.
Kamut's mother was a German Shadow Lord, his father is a Pakistani Get of Fenris. The details aren't really necesarry, since his mother died at birth and his father was long gone by the time he came out, although he accidentally left a name when he departed. Kamut (wrong alphabet, obviously) is Urdu for b*****d although no-one has ever realised it, it was just something his mother remembered his father say in reference to him.
He was adopted into the Sept anyway, despite his heritage, mostly because they felt it would be a waste of his mother's life to abandon him. Even if he were not as great as she was before her fall, numbers are dwindling and even the small difference a metis would make could be significant. Kamut did a good job of shirking responsibility during his youth, never in the wrong place at the wrong time, so he could avoid being called on for the s**t jobs. He does his best to not be noticed, even when he suggests a course of action he does it as subtley as possible, suggesting ideas so the leaders can think they came up with it themselves. He knows his place, it doesn't involve being killed. He briefly had a pack shortly after his first change, during which time Kamut earned his deed-name for his tendency for stalking those that were stalking his pack and striking from the shadows, capitalising on his advantages for stealth and seeing the weakness of his enemies. The little renown he has came from from that period too, thankfully his auspice allowed him advancement with being honorable, as Kamut takes the approach that certain things need to be done regardless of looking good while doing it. His pack, despite his best urgings, didn't do too well. Kamut was the only one really competent at sneaking around, so when they were ambushed he was the only one that could sneak away safely. Many of the enemies died killing his packmates, but not enough of them for it to be worth the sacrifice of another. Undoubtedly his Alpha cursed his name (although he hardly had to do more than speak it) as he realised the Ragabash had slipped away. Since then, Kamut has walked alone, feeling a little guilt at his actions but knowing they were the right ones. The Bodensee Caern in Konstanz held despite the loss of his pack, but he felt it better not to show his face there. Hearing of the recent troubles in Berlin, he decided to face that city and maybe redeem himself, even if only in his own eyes. © 2014 Seph North |
